Favorite track: Night at the Museum.

Calvin Fredrickson Lilac's debut, self-titled LP is a scalding blast of bidet water—drawn from Chicago's gutters. Its ugliness is remarkable: Panned guitar titters and shrieks in one channel, while a second guitar gasps for air under a cloud of fuzz in the other. The bass and drums center this absolutely Chicago-sounding noise rock record, which was cleverly tracked by Mike Lust and mixed by Seth Manchester.

This album is an outright racket without affectation or mimicry. I love it; it terrifies me. Favorite track: Burn Down the White House.

I.U.Dea 03:25
I’ve got an idea (x2) candle in a vacuum thumbtack in my face I’ve got an idea (x4) Acid in my eyeballs anvil through a glass door Blowtorch on an iceberg Who was the flower? First man, father Lucy in the desert Upright, walking

Upon its suggestion, when it’s recalled, We start moving toward one another. In my mind, it’s slow, black, thick, Rolling over the hills in daylight. I do not see the hills. I see no hills. I do not see the clouds. I see no clouds. I do not see the sand. I see no sand. My feet sink in the dirt. I see no dirt. Frightening news, now again. A list of failures, now again. A foot-pressed chest, now again. A catch at the top of your breath, now again. Upon its suggestion, when it’s recalled, We start moving toward one another. But a bruise won’t heat. And a bruise won’t sweat. And a bruise won’t run. And a bruise can’t speak. Two moonlit hills, now again. Two glowing clouds, now again. Two handfuls of sand, now again. My feet sink in the dirt. I see no dirt.

Look at the cup, look at the bell, look at the door look at the floor, look at the ball You stepped away into thin air separate from me, if I can’t see, are you still there? Now you are here, now you exist when you go away, are you a shade, are you a ghost? In the forest In the trees We exist We believe Red block Blue flame Lame paw Strange jaw Sick skull Round hole Green brain Look at the sky Look at the dirt Look at my face, look at my hand, look at my fur Am I a sieve? Am I a seam? Am I a block, ball or a bell, am I a dream? My flesh is a nail My flesh is a board My head is a host, hard and remote, my heart is a thorn I sleep in the day and wake in the night my body is ash, my body is clay, my body is light
4.
I'm Old 04:26
My parents were young, my parents My parents were strong, my parents I’m changing It’s slow Moon in the water Breaking apart The tomatoes In my garden Squash blossoms Fat bees Just one more summer Just one more winter It’s disgusting And amazing

Woman in power woman in pain Woman in power woman is sick
6.
I’m just an orb of colored light I’m not alive I’ve got no eyes See me at night, I feel alright, See me at night, I feel alright I’m just a snake A reptile Lounge lizard Big fish See me at night, I feel alright, See me at night, I feel alright Burn down the Whitehouse, burn it down Burn down the Whitehouse, burn it down Burn down the Whitehouse, burn it down Leave a pile of ash, burn it down
7.
It left your body, now your body’s gone. A record of reaching, it’s dumb and doomed. Now it’s locked in the dark. Now it’s sheathed in dust. Now it disappears. Now it’s lit by daylight. Now it’s lit by flashlight. Every footfall echoes, every echo decays.
8.
The Broom 03:17
It didn’t faze me. It didn’t change a thing. It whispered no words into no ears, At least not into mine. Do you have a broom? Then mop the floor. If you have a broom, Then mop the floor. I’ll give it a name that won’t suit it, One that fits like a mud-sunk shoe. My favorite sound is that sucking Wet tongue in a gasping mouth. But oh, The way it drips, The way it drags, The way it’s stupid, The way it heaps in a pile, The way I haven’t thought, The way I haven’t spoke.
9.
If you have needs, say them now. If you have needs, speak them out loud. ‘Cause if you’re hungry, you should eat. If you’re sleepy, you should sleep. You’re an animal shitting on the deck of the arc. You’re a baby in the dim, green, cold, wet dark.
10.
Can I be a tent stake, Pounded down to hold things up? Tightened tethers will open a place When I shrink down. And now I’m hammered in, I’m bent around a stone. Will my silence offer space, Or are you more alone? These dumb thoughts out loud, Do they grant permission? Or do they occupy your air? Do they cut your volume? Is it work that we’re afraid of. It’s work that I’m afraid of. And I think what I’m afraid of Is bloodless objects in bloodless hands.
